The Human Face of Big Data launched their mission control center yesterday on October 2nd. From the mission control center you are able to see three-dimensional snapshots of humanity that are streaming in from smart phone users around the world. In case you haven’t heard of this project, The Human Face of Big Data is described as a ‘a globally crowdsourced media project focusing on humanity’s new ability to collect, analyze, triangulate and visualize vast amounts of data in real time’.
To participate in the project, all you need to do is download a free mobile app that lets you compare answers about yourself and your life with millions of others around the world. And the best part is that for the first 50,000 downloads the project will donate $1 to charity:water, a non-profit organization the uses 100% of public donations to fund clean water projects around the world.
I think this is a great example of an interesting mobile media project that is a triple threat – innovation, education and doing good.
