The first couple of days of the new Overdigital.com Online Video Community have been pretty interesting, with 20 members so far, and discussions about HTML5 DRM and MPEG-Dash. In addition to some technical issues, there are a couple of new added features.
- Social Media Login – Clearly users don’t want to register, and use their existing logins. There are many paid services, and although using a free version that works seamlessly is more complicated to implement, it’s more scalable in the long term.
- Like buttons and media enabled activity stream – we are used to it on Facebook, why lower the standard.
- Avatars – overall very tricky. Social media avatar, vs. Gravatar, vs. local avatar – and the fact that the Buddypress avatar system is different than the default one from WordPress.
- SEO optimization.
But the key remains engagement – without it, a community won’t grow. To help better understand what would motivate you, please help by answering this quick survey.
